This thread contains the full documented history of rotation updates of the public servers.

Heyo, we are now releasing Rotation Update #22! This update includes 14 new maps and 38 returning maps to replace 44 old maps. A decent amount of maps have since been edited, as was mentioned in the discussion thread.

Excluding Micro, the current rotation has 1 rage map in each of the Medium rotation cycles while the others lack any rage maps. Rage is a turn off for many, but others still enjoy it. This rotation we are looking at introducing 1 rage map in Mini, Medium, and Mega, however, they will be placed in the second cycle. This means that while they are still available, they will be playing far less frequently than most other maps.

You may find the spreadsheet detailing the changes here.

You may leave any feedback relating to this update on this discussion thread, feel free to let us know your thoughts.

Past Rotation Updates

Halloween Update

The last major rotation update was about a month and a half ago so it's due for an update - and it's our biggest one yet. Halloween is also coming up so a bunch of the maps have been spookified!

Firstly, Dynamic Rotations have had a huge change. We are trying out the 4 rotation system once again with 18 maps in each rotation. That means that there are a total of 72 unique maps in this update! Here is the breakdown:

Rotation Supports Teams Sizes Activates At
Micro 16 - 24 players 8v8 - 12v12
Mini 28 - 36 players 14v14 - 18v18 24 players
Medium 40 - 56 players 20v20 - 28v28 38 players
Mega 60+ players 30v30+ 58 players

You can find the spreadsheet detailing all these changes here.

Rotation Update 12

As Christmas is fast approaching, the rotations have been updated to have a more festive feeling! We have added over 20 "Festive" Maps along with 19 brand new maps to the Stratus Network. We hope you enjoy these new maps and make sure to check out the Advent Calendar for events throughout the month!

You can find the spreadsheet that details all these changes here.

Rotation Update 13

It's been a long time since our last mega rotation update (almost 3 months!) so today we have a huge update. Over half of the maps have been replaced - a quarter being completely brand new! We also have a few Avicus maps scattered around the rotations and have decided to merge Payload so be sure to look out for those maps when playing. The dynamic rotations have also been tweaked again and Micro now focuses on even smaller maps.

Rotation Supports Teams Sizes Activates At
Micro 16 - 20 players 8v8 - 10v10
Mini 24 - 34 players 12v12 - 16v16 22 players
Medium 36 - 54 players 18v18 - 26v26 34 players
Mega 56+ players 28v28+ 54 players

You can find the spreadsheet that details all these changes here.

Rot Update 14

Hey, it's time for another rotation update. Unlike the previous few updates, dynamic rotations have gotten a fairly large revamp:

Rotation Supports Teams Sizes Activates At
Micro 16 - 20 players 8v8 - 10v10
Mini 24 - 34 players 12v12 - 16v16 20 players
Medium 36 - 54 players 18v18 - 22v22 32 players
Mega 48 - 60 players 24v24 - 30v30 48 players
Mammoth 64+ players 32v32+ 64 players

We've also removed a few popular maps this time around as many of them have been in the rotations since the server first opened! Don't worry though, these maps will slowly be added back in upcoming mini rotation updates.

You can find the spreadsheet that details all these changes here.

Rotation Update #15

After a few weeks, we are back with another major rotation update! We've added a bunch of brand new maps never before seen on Stratus and re-added a few of the classics. In total, 26 maps were added/removed.

You can find the spreadsheet that details all these changes here.

Rotation Update 16

3 months after the last major rotation update, we're finally glad to announce the next massive overhaul of Stratus' map rotations. We've got 41 new and returning maps to replace 37 purged maps, making this one of the largest updates in recent times.

With this rotation update, the Micro and Mini rotations have been increased in length by two, bringing the rotation up to 18 maps. As these maps are generally quick and small, adding more variety to these rotations is essential to making them as enjoyable as possible, and we would like to add even more to extend their lengths even further in the future. Over the next few rotation updates we will also be looking at extending the length of some other rotations -- most notably, the Mega rotation.

Click here to see a wonderful, informative spreadsheet of the new rotations.

Please note the little black tabs in the spreadsheet indicate comments on maps which have had changes made to them in order to make them play better.

Feedback and suggestions on these changes are encouraged, so please leave any comments you have in this discussion thread. If you have any questions as to why a certain map was removed/wasn't removed/was added/wasn't added, please also leave a comment and we'll provide our justification.

Thanks for your patience, and enjoy!
The Map Development team.

New lobby

With the recent official release of Stratus UHC 1.0, our lobby needed to be updated in order to showcase this new sector of the network. So, we are pleased to introduce to you our new lobby! This lobby takes inspiration from the classic Overcast Network lobbies created by the one and only bleangamer while giving it our own Stratus feel.

Huge thanks to everyone that contributed to this new lobby, especially DoomyBoy DoomyBoy.

Our rotations have also been given a small update which has resulted in the addition of 18 new maps to replace 16 old ones. You can find a spreadsheet detailing all these changes here.

We have also made an important change to maps with punch bows. All (known) maps with punch bows have had them replaced with Power 1 bows. Various other maps have also had edits to them in order to make them more enjoyable.

Feedback and suggestions on these changes are encouraged, so please leave any comments you have in this discussion thread. If you have any questions as to why a certain map was removed/wasn't removed/was added/wasn't added, please also leave a comment and we'll provide our justification.

We hope that you enjoy these changes.

Thanks,
The Map Development Team.

Halloween Rotation #17

Our rotations have once again had a major update with the introduction of 48 new and returning maps to replace 39 older maps. As Halloween is coming up, many of the maps have been updated with their chilling counterparts for a limited time. Also, our new lobby has been given a spooky makeover! A summary of these changes are as follows:

  • Micro, Mini, Medium, and Mammoth rotation length increased by 2 maps
  • Mega rotation length increased by 4 maps
  • Introduced some cross-over of maps in the Medium, Mega, and Mammoth rotations
    • This means some maps appear in both Mega and Mammoth
  • Replaced various maps with their Halloween counterparts
  • Added a bunch of new maps and community favorites
  • Removed many maps to make room for the above changes

You can find a spreadsheet detailing all these changes here.

Huge thanks to everyone that assisted in curating this new rotation, and we hope that you enjoy these eerie changes.

Thanks,
The Map Development Team jack_o_lantern

Today we're happy to release the next minor rotation update -- #17.1. While this isn't the rotation update mentioned and discussed in The Next Rotation Update thread, it does take on some suggestions from that open discussion as spoken by the community. The majority of the suggestions are pending for the next major rotation overhaul.

This rotation was based on the Halloween rotation (update #17) and the changes detailed in the following spreadsheet relate to that update rather than the one currently on the servers (update #16.1). We are expecting to release rotation #18 on the 14th of December, which will include the Christmas themed maps.

You can find a spreadsheet detailing all these changes here.

Feedback and suggestions on these changes are encouraged, so please leave any comments you have in this discussion thread. If you have any questions as to why a certain map was removed/wasn't removed/was added/wasn't added, please also leave a comment and we'll provide our justification.

Thanks,
The Map Development team.

Christmas Rotation #18

Our rotations have once again had a major update with the introduction of 47 new and returning maps to replace 39 older maps. With the festive season upon us, many of the maps have been updated with their Christmas themed counterparts for a limited time. The lobby has also been given a wintery makeover! A summary of these changes are as follows:

  • Mega now activates at 46 players instead of 50
  • Mammoth now activates at 60 players instead of 64
  • Replaced various maps with their Christmas themed counterparts
  • Added a bunch of new maps and community favorites
  • Removed many maps to make room for the above changes

In addition to the above changes, 3 special maps have also been included in the rotation. Juggernaut: St. Carrotfields, ChristmasQuad: Primed, and Icescar have each been added to the rotation for the duration of the Christmas event. Unfamiliar with these maps? Keep reading to find out about them.

Juggernaut is a game where one powerful player faces off against the rest of the server in an epic 1 against all battle. The game ends when either the juggernaut survives the onslaught for a total of 4 minutes, or until the challengers defeat them. Use the different special items in order to give yourself the upper hand on the St. Carrotfields battleground. Do note that kill and deaths are not tracked on this map and will have no effect on your stats. Juggernaut: St. Carrotfields can be found in the Mini rotation.

ChristmasQuad, or CannonQuad, is a 4 team cannoning deathmatch where teams build bridges and cannons to eliminate the other teams from the match across 10 minutes. Each team can have up to 10 players (+2 premium players) and has 16 shared lives between them. The last team standing, or that with the most players after the time runs out, will win the game. ChristmasQuad: Primed can be found in the Medium rotation.

Icescar is a classic Gear map similar to that of Rift. Gather emeralds by getting kills to trade and get better gear. With your team, you must successfully destroy all 3 of the other team's orbs to win the game. Icescar can be found in the Mega rotation.

You can find a spreadsheet detailing all these changes here .

Feedback and suggestions on these changes are encouraged, so please leave any comments you have in this discussion thread. If you have any questions as to why a certain map was removed/wasn't removed/was added/wasn't added, please also leave a comment and we'll provide our justification.

Thanks,

Today, we will be releasing rotation #18.1. This update removes all Christmas themed maps were removed along with maps that were heavily criticized in the current rotation. Several community members have been contacted about this rotation privately before its release to the public. Shown before your eyes is a conglomerated effort to create a rotation that encompasses the desires and playstyles of a variety of different players in the network.

You can find the spreadsheet detailing these changes here.

Rotation player count activations have been tweaked slightly from the previous rotation. Under each rotation, you may find the current and past activation number. We hope that this activates rotations accurately to the player count of the server.

We would love to hear your suggestions in maps that you believe are a fit candidate for the rotation, should be changed, or removed. Please feel free to leave your comments on Discord or reply to this discussion thread. This being said, remember to keep proper etiquette in your constructive criticisms. Expect rotation #19 to arrive at the end of January/beginning of February.

The Map Development Team snowflake

Rotation Update #18.2 is now released! The primary focus of this update is to evenly spread out the 4-team maps, fix a couple of bugs, and replace criticized maps. You can find the spreadsheet detailing all these changes here.

Banner

The Map Development team invites you to enjoy our latest update, the 19th Rotation Update. This rotation update adds 35 brand new maps and 31 returning maps to replace 56 removed maps from the previous rotations, officially making this rotation update one of the largest ever.

The main attraction of this rotation update is the inclusion of rotation of maps specifically tailored for very small team sizes for periods of low player counts. This will take the place of the Micro-rotation and the other remaining rotations have had their team sizes shifted to accommodate for this change. A more detailed explanation and reasoning may be found in mitchiii_ mitchiii_'s thread here. As this is new, we strongly encourage you to give us your feedback and suggestions on the Micro-rotation. That being said, I would like to recognize Valkyh Valkyh for managing the Micro-rotation for this major update.

We have also reworked the player activation count for each rotation to better suit the map sizes in an aim to make matches are more filled. The new dynamic rotation setup is as follows:

Rotation Supports Teams Sizes Activates At
Micro 10 players and less 4v4 - 5v5
Mini 16 - 24 players 8v8 - 12v12 12 players
Medium 32 - 40 players 16v16 - 20v20 26 players
Mega 48 - 56 players 24v24 - 28v28 44 players
Mammoth 64+ players 32v32+ 60 players

You can find the spreadsheet detailing this update here

We were able to collect your feedback from the input thread posted earlier and have adjusted some maps to address issues that affected gameplay. With the amount of input we received from the community, it is likely that for every large rotation update, a feedback thread will precede it.

The team would love to hear your thoughts and suggestions in regard to this update, maps that you believe are a fit candidate for the rotation, or what should be changed or removed. Please feel free to leave your comments on Discord or reply to this discussion thread. This being said, remember to keep proper etiquette in your constructive criticisms.

Thanks,
The Map Development Team.

We're excited to announce the release of Rotation Update #19.1. This update sees the renewal of 17 maps to replace 17 removed maps and much more.

A major discussion point while drafting this rotation was the issue surrounding Conquest maps. Capture the Wool and Destroy matches don't have a set time limit and can last anywhere from a minute to over an hour. Conquest maps, however, often have a fixed time limit (typically 7 to 10 minutes) which becomes a problem when other matches last only a few minutes. Being forced to play through a 7-minute Team Deathmatch after having the previous objectives maps rushed can be frustrating, especially since more Conquest maps have been introduced into the rotation in recent updates. With this rotation update, we're trialing something different in an attempt to reduce the impact of rotation clogging while retaining the current map variety.

You can find a spreadsheet with the new rotation here.

The first thing you may notice when you view the spreadsheet is that the Mini, Medium, and Mega rotations now have two "cycles". Each of these cycles provides a similar selection of maps with some notable differences. The first cycle may contain one particular map, while it is absent from the second cycle of the rotation, and vice versa. Through this method, we can keep the same maps and variety while spacing certain maps out further. You can read more about this change and what it aims to achieve here.

As always, feedback and suggestions on these changes are encouraged, so please leave any comments you have in this discussion thread. If you have any questions as to why a certain map was removed/wasn't removed/was added/wasn't added, please also leave a comment and we'll provide our justification.

Thanks,
The Map Development team.

Rotation Update #20

Today we're excited to announce the release of Rotation Update #20. Following the experimental nature of Rotation Update #19 and #19.1, we will be releasing this rotation update along with radical changes to how you play maps. As we're still experimenting with this change, only a handful of maps have been updated with the changes.

I won't go into too much detail about the changes in this post, but I will say one thing. This change aims to be refreshing and most importantly, fun. The maps we selected to apply this change to are from a range of game modes in order to best observe how this affects different types of maps. So which maps should you look out for? Directrix, Fumeen II, Limbo II, Sunrise Over Paradise, and a few others are now live with this change.

Join /server Mixed to experience it for yourself!

This was an April Fools joke in which various maps were transformed into Water Drop styled maps and put into the rotation as a "radical" change to how maps are played. The actual rotation update, Update #20.1, can be found in the official response post below.

After closely observing how our radical gameplay changes affected the overall quality of matches, we have decided that this is in fact not the right direction for Stratus. These changes will be removed after the next server restart returning everything back to normal. Thanks for bearing with us during our experiments.

The rotations have been updated once again in Rotation Update #20.1. This update removes the aforementioned experimental changes, also known as Water Drop, and introduces various changes of its own. We've got 4 new maps replacing 4 older maps, and the order of the rotations have been slightly shuffled around.

You can find the spreadsheet detailing all these changes here.

Feedback and suggestions on these changes are encouraged, so please leave any comments you have in this discussion thread. If you have any questions as to why a certain map was removed/wasn't removed/was added/wasn't added, please also leave a comment and we'll provide our justification.

Rotation Update 21

We're excited to release the newest revision to the server rotations the in 21st major Rotation Update. This rotation update adds 22 brand new maps and 22 returning maps to replace 43 removed maps from the previous rotations. A summary of these changes is as follows:

  • Micro-rotation length was increased by 2
  • Team Micro maps have had their overfill capacity increased by 1
  • Some maps from the WMC have been added, including the winning map, Outcrop
  • Added some Eastery surprises...

You can find a spreadsheet detailing all these changes here.

Immediately, some of you may notice that there are more RAGE maps than the previous rotation. However, before you gather your pitchforks, just know that only one extra rotation slot has been taken up. One instance of Directrix has been replaced with Moor RAGE, which includes some fun edits, and the other is the addition of Canopy in the Medium rotation. We understand some people have strong feelings regarding RAGE maps, however, we feel that 6 out of 84 maps (with 2 of those being in the Micro-rotation), is pretty reasonable.

Huge thanks to everyone that contributed to the creation of this rotation, especially Valkyh. Feedback and suggestions on these changes are always encouraged, so please leave any comments you have in this discussion thread. If you have any questions as to why a certain map was removed/wasn't removed/was added/wasn't added, please also leave a comment and we'll provide our justification.

Thanks,
The Map Development Team rabbit

Hi.

Easter has passed and we hope you enjoyed all of the events that ran throughout Easter weekend. This being said, now is the time to refresh the rotations with new maps to replace the ones that were added for the event.

You may find the spreadsheet here.

Rotation Update #21.1 builds from rotation #21, removing Easter-themed maps and maps that were criticized. This rotation may be prevalent on the servers for a slightly longer time than usual as we are planning to deliver the best experience possible with every update. Expect to see new maps and refreshed versions of maps you're already familiar with in the next big update.

We would love to hear your suggestions in maps that you believe are a fit candidate for the rotation, should be changed, or removed. Please feel free to leave your comments on Discord. That being said, remember to keep proper etiquette in your constructive criticisms.

The Map Development Team +1
