Winter Mapmaking Contest




The Map Developers would like to announce our third map making competition, the Winter Mapmaking Competition. This mapmaking competition focuses on giving a refresh to the smaller rotations on the Stratus Network. Because of the new rotation revamp, maps for the Micro and Mini rotation are in high demand.


Rules and Submission Guidelines


  • Maps must support anywhere between 8 (4v4) to 40 (20v20) players.
  • Maps with 10 (5v5) or less players must follow these additional standards.
  • Maps must be in a team format (no FFA).
  • Maps can be any gamemode.
  • Maps must not mix different gamemodes (e.g. DTM with KOTH -- DTC with DTM is excepted).
  • Maps must not be authored by more than 3 individuals.
  • Individuals can author up to 3 submissions, however only their highest scoring one will count.
  • Map XMLs must be at least protocol 1.4.0
  • Submissions into the competition must include [WMC] in the topic title along with the gamemode and map name (e.g. [WMC][CTW] Mo Bamba)
  • Submissions must be correctly cleaned, pruned, and compiled.
  • Submissions must be posted in the Map Submissions subforum.
  • Maps previously submitted to Stratus are not allowed to be entered into the competition.
  • Individuals cannot submit maps that they did not create themselves.
  • Map Developers and Judges are not permitted to provide feedback prior to the competition results being released.
  • Map Developers and Judges can assist with XML related questions and validation of the XML document.
  • Maps must be submitted before the competition deadline.
  • Any violation of the rules will result in the submission being disqualified.
  • Map Developers and Judges reserve the right to deny the admittance of any submission to the competition.


Dates


Submissions Open: 31st of January at 11:59 PM EST

Submissions Close: 4th of March at 11:59 PM EST

Public Testing: 8th of March to the 11th of March

Results Released: TBA


Dates for Public Testing are subject to change based on the number of submissions and effectiveness of the tests that occur. Results will likely follow within a week of Public Testing concluding.



Scoring


Scoring will take place once submissions have closed and entries have had any necessary fixes applied to them. Maps will be judged and scored internally by select Map Developers and Guest Judges during and after the public testing period. The judging panel will be announced once submissions close.


The scoring criteria is composed of 3 sections, each with their own sub-sections, with an additional public rating. The average score awarded by each of the judges will be summed together to get the final rating for that map out of a total of 100 points.

  • Layout uniqueness /5

Bonuses:



Public rating will take place during the "public testing" period.

The following prizes will be awarded to each of the authors of the top 3 scoring maps.


1st Place

  • Strato
  • 5x Set Next tokens
  • Competition Winner trophy
  • Winner Discord tag
  • Guaranteed spot in Rot. Update #20

2nd Place

  • Nimbus (3 weeks)
  • 5x Set Next tokens
  • Runner Up Discord tag

3rd Place

  • Nimbus (2 weeks)
  • 3x Set Next tokens

If you have a premium rank but are not yet whitelisted, message a Map Developer through discord with a link to your Stratus profile. A reminder that submissions for the contest will close in 1 month on the 4th of March at 11:59 PM EST. If you haven't yet started building your map for the contest, now is a great time to start! Check out this thread for a guide on how to set up your own map making and testing servers.

Can I have extra time because I’m still trying to make tournament maps

The Contest Judges





The contest will have 6 judges that will provide their ratings for
every map.


A quick reminder that submissions are open until 4th of March at 11:59
PM EST. Please make sure your maps are submitted on the forums by
then. Any submission that has been found to be edited after that date will
automatically be ejected from the contest.
