Map Development News

A few hours ago, our Head Map Developer mitchiii  announced a set of changes to Anax, our map development server. In short, Anax will be moved to our new server software, SportPaper, which will drastically improve reliability. Permissions, including the whitelist, will now be handled through our permissions system. For more information, read the full post here.

This follows an announcement outlining how to make maps future-proof for Operation Ares. You can read his thread here.

Development News

Our developer Cobol72  wants to know: what are your gamemode ideas? If you have any ideas, or you just want to see your friends' ideas, check out his thread here.

Over the past two weeks, the Operation Ares UHC part of the plugin has received a number of updates. These are the most relevant changes:

  • A bunch of host commands were added: /disqualify, to remove a player; /muteall, to mute chat; /forcescatter, to scatter a player after the game started; /revive, to revive a player; and /whitelistcancel, to cancel the whitelist countdown

  • The skin kit has been added, which will allow mapmakers to give players custom skins

  • /fb has been added. Players can use this to enable a fullbright effect during a UHC match

  • An API to modify some properties of cave generation has been added. For UHC, we've used this ability to slightly increase the size and frequency of caves

  • Renewables are now as efficient as they were in PGM

  • The UHC scoreboard has undergone a number of changes
    • The scoreboard shows how large the next border is and how long it will be until it comes into effect

    • There is now a separate UI which appears for before the match starts vs after to show the most relevant information depending on what stage the match is in

    • The top kills pane only shows when there's information to display

    • The player count now tells you the total amount of players which played during the match

  • Friendly fire is now enabled by default in UHC, fixing some issues with TNT not damaging the player who primed it

  • Dead players have strikethrough on their names

  • The world border now ignores players in spectator mode

ALM

and cs_  have started putting together the GraphQL API for our backend. The plugins and our website will use this to read and write all the information that we'll be holding centrally. halfmaster1  is now working on the website, and awesomelemonade  has been working on CTF. Lastly, expect regular UHC matches on Operation Ares by the end of this month!

New Maps

During the past two weeks, the following maps have been added to the public servers:

Community Spotlight

The DTC meta is broken, how can it be fixed? Qwuiblington  has written an extensive list of possible solutions to address the many problems in the gamemode. Check it out here.

Do you want trees on your map but you find vanilla ones boring? The custom tree connoisseur himself has made all his trees public. Check out rockymine 's thread here!

Admin Corner

This week, the administration had a big announcement: ShinyDialga  is taking a step back from his role in daily network management into a more advisory position, so he can focus on his work and education. Shiny has been committed to Stratus for the past two-and-a-half years, and will remain involved with business decisions and larger plans for Stratus's future.

We've also brought in Anthonny , who has been working with us for a while behind the scenes, to be more closely involved with our network goals and business plans in Shiny's place. You can read more about this here.
